Description

Upper respiratory tract obstruction can be rapidly life-threatening. It is important that veterinarians have knowledge of when and how to perform an emergency temporary tracheostomy and understand potential complications of this life-saving procedure. While not immediately life-threatening, pneumonia and pleuropneumonia can require emergency attention. Veterinarians should be familiar with diagnostic and therapeutic approaches to horses with severe pulmonary disease. Information from the recent literature will be presented and discussed.
