Maintaining body weight and feeding an appropriate diet are top priorities in the long term management of cats with chronic kidney disease (CKD), but success is often undermined by the loss of appetite that is a common consequence of CKD. This webinar provides practical, affordable approaches to maintaining appetite and fluid balance, which allows owners to improve their cat’s quality of life and longevity. Current advice on nutritional management of CKD will also be discussed – including what to feed, when to introduce dietary management, how to improve long term uptake of prescription diets and how to monitor and adjust the feeding plan to suit the individual cat.
Martha Cannon is an RCVS Recognised Specialist in Feline Medicine and co-director at the Oxford Cat Clinic, a first opinion and medical referral cat-only clinic in Oxford (www.oxfordcatclinic.co.uk). She is a trustee-director of International Cat Care (formerly Feline Advisory Bureau) and of the International Society of Feline Medicine (ISFM), and is a frequent speaker at international and national veterinary meetings.
