Description

This talk will discuss the approach to the rat consultation including handling and examination. While rats are commonly kept as children’s pets and are often regarded as “low budget” pets, there is a growing number of highly bonded committed and very knowledgeable adult rat owners. In these cases, they often expect and need a more comprehensive approach, and there is a lot that can be done in terms of investigation of pet rat diseases. The talk will also cover common diseases, including skin disease, mammary tumours, and respiratory disease. Management of these pets is often key to disease prevention and this will be discussed as well.
