Description
Colic cases can be challenging for vets. Identifying whether the abdominal pain is due to gastrointestinal disease can sometimes be difficult in some cases. The aim of this lecture is to explain the differentiating signs of medical and surgical colics, and to highlight causes of abdominal pain remote from the gastrointestinal tract (so called false colic). Discussion of treatment regimes and recognising when to refer a case will also be addressed.
Melissa packer BVetMed Cert ES (STS) MRCVS graduated in 2003 from the RVC and spent four years in predominately equine practice before undertaking a surgical residency in gastroenterology at the Philip Leverhulme Equine Hospital in 2007. Melissa achieved a RCVS certificate in Equine Soft Tissue Surgery in 2009 and is currently in private practice working towards the ECVS diploma in Large Animal Surgery.
