Bio

Niall qualified from Glasgow Vet School in 1982 and started in mixed, mainly small animal practice in Fife before joining PDSA in 1984. He was there for nearly two years before moving back to Glasgow.

He was Senior Veterinary Surgeon at the Glasgow East PDSA Petaid Hospital for 15 years. During that time he was an honorary lecturer at Glasgow Vet School and an examiner in the finals.

He was a representative on PDSA Staff Association (Staff Consultation and Communication). He completed his Certificate in Small Animal Orthopaedics in 1991.

Niall took ill health retirement because of MS in December 2009. He now does some work as a Clinical & Professional Skills Instructor at Glasgow Vet School. There he has been involved with tutoring on Veterinary Professionalism and Ethics, assessing OSCEs (Objective Structured Clinical Examinations) and DOPS (Direct Observation of Procedural Skills). He assesses Foundation, Clinical and Professional online student portfolios.

He has also helped out with communication skills, standard setting, professional induction, and the West of Scotland Reach Summer School programme.

He is married to Colette and they have three grown up children.
