Bio

Karla represents CMVP - Colegio Médico Veterinario del Perú, the Peruvian college of veterinarians. She is a consultant, currently working with the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism as the project manager of an initiative to implement the Trade Facilitation Agreement of the WTO in Peru, through the improvement of efficiency of sanitary control of food. With experience as a national consultant of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) for improving the agri-food safety management system of Peru. 

She worked in two of the three food safety authorities of Peru, the National Animal Health and Agri-food Quality Service (SENASA) and the National Fisheries Health Agency (SANIPES) and contributed with the development of sanitary management systems at national level formulating regulations, surveillance programmes, developing teams and promoting multisectorial coordination. She was Director of the Surveillance Office and Deputy-Director of the Food Safety Office at SANIPES. She also represented SANIPES at the national Permanent Multisectoral Commission of Food Safety from 2017 – 2019 and participated in negotiations of free trade agreements with different countries.

She is an assistant professor at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia and is a member of the strategic plan commission at the Peruvian College of Veterinarians. She has specialized with honours in food sciences, project management (PMP), behavioural economics and international business management.
