Graduated at Utrecht University (Veterinary Faculty) January 1975. Dept; Theriogenology (Utrecht) 1975-1978; Private Practice 1978-1981; Consultant Animal Health Service Limburg (1981,NL); Assistant prof at Dept Herd Health & Ambulatory Clinic 1981-1984 (NL); PhD on Herd Health, and Assoc Prof (1984,NL); Full professor at Wageningen University, Dept of Animal Husbandry (1988-1998,NL); Full professor at Dept of Epidemiology, Utrecht University (1998-2005,NL); Invited professor at Ghent University (2006-2007,B) for epidemiology & quality risk management; invited professor at Nantes Vet. School (6 months,F) for curriculum development; invited professor at Lyon Vet. School (2008,F), for developing the curriculum on herd health programmes; international consultant for cattle and equine health care.

Field Trainer for SNGTV to teach practitioners in Herd Health programmes (2008-2009, France).

Currently, general director of the Dutch company ‘’Excellent Equestrian Services International’’ (EESI), producing and providing cooling systems for heat stressed sport horses (single stands; cooling alleys; cooling carousels), including Bluetooth-operated electrocardiograms.

 

Published 8 practical books for veterinarians and agricultural professionals: Field Trials & Errors (1993, Intervet); Dairy Herd Health & Production Programmes (1996 & 2001, Wageningen Academic Publ NL); EASYVET, a practical field guide for cattle practitioners (1998,Coop.Pharm.NL); Application of quantitative methods in veterinary epidemiology (2007, Wageningen Academic Publ.NL) ; Applying HACCP-based Quality Risk Management (2008, Wageningen Academic Publ NL); Farm health & productivity management of dairy young stock (2010, Wageningen Academic Publ NL); Dairy herd health & management (2012, Context Products UK); Heat stress in sport horses (2020, Context Products UK).

Published over 300 scientific and practical papers for veterinarians; presented over 150 lectures on various veterinary topics in different countries over the world.

Conducted consultancies in different countries (e.g. Japan; Sweden; France; Costa Rica; USA; Thailand; Turkey; Vietnam).

Co-organised and lectured international courses for veterinarians in e.g. Spain, Vietnam, France, Cyprus, South Africa, Italy, Portugal.

Invited member of the National Dutch Health Council of the Ministry of Public Health and appointed by HM the Queen.

Member of the Scientific Committee for Animal Health & Welfare, SANCO, EU Commission, Brussels, Belgium (3 years).

Acknowledged specialist of the European College of Bovine Health Management.

Founding father of the European College of Veterinary Preventive Medicine.
