John has over 30 years experience in small animal orthopaedics and spinal surgery. He has a PhD in canine osteoarthritis from University of Bristol. He was Professor of Small Animal Surgery at University of Liverpool (2001-2013) and Visiting Professor at University of Sydney in 2010. John has published over 100 peer-reviewed papers, several of which relate to the development and validation of client-reported outcomes measures. He was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons for ‘meritorious contributions to knowledge’ in 2016 and was elected Chair of RCVS Fellowship Board (2019-2022). He was President of the European Society for Veterinary Orthopaedics (2014-2016). John received the BSAVA ‘Simon Award’ in 2005, and the BSAVA ‘Blaine Award’ for outstanding contributions to veterinary science in 2023. John co-founded Movement Referrals in 2022 to provide independent Specialist referrals in orthopaedics and neurology.
