Bio

Johanna Fink-Gremmels obtained her degree in veterinary medicine from the Veterinary School in Hannover (Germany) and qualified as lecturer and specialist in Veterinary Pharmacology and Toxicology at the same University.

In 1985 she became research director at the Institute of Food Microbiology and Toxicology at the Federal Institute Nutrition and Food (Kulmbach, Germany). In 1991 she was appointed as a professor by the Veterinary Faculty of Utrecht University at the Division of Veterinary Pharmacology, Pharmacotherapy and Clinical Toxicology, which is embedded now in the Institute for Risk Assessment Sciences. 

Within her research activities are molecular mechanisms of drug action, biotransformation and distribution and concepts of antimicrobial therapy and gut health. In the area of toxicology she focused on natural toxins (mycotoxins) and the possibilities to mitigate their adverse effects in humans and animals.  

Prof. Fink-Gremmels is certified European Specialist in Veterinary Pharmacology and Toxicology (Dip ECVPT) and obtained various academic distinctions. Since 2009 she is also president of the European Association for Veterinary Pharmacology and Toxicology (EAVPT). In addition, she served for almost 10 years the EFSA CONTAM Panel as a member, and is still involved in working group activities. She is editor and section editor in scientific Journals, among others the World Mycotoxin Journal.
