Gayle graduated from the University of Cambridge and completed a rotating internship and then large animal internal medicine and critical care residency at the Royal Veterinary College in London. She then completed a PhD investigating aortic valve prolapse at the University of Nottingham. After 15 years working at the University of Nottingham as Professor in Veterinary Internal Medicine and Critical Care, she left academia and since February 22 has been Director of Veterinary Professional Development at IVC Evidensia. As part of her new role, she continues to do some clinical work as an equine medicine consultant at Pool House Equine Clinic. Her main interests are large animal cardiology, gastroenterology, imaging (particularly ultrasonography), emergency and critical care and postgraduate education.
