Guinea pigs are popular pets, because they’re so damn cute. In fact, there are about half a million pet guineas in the UK, but relatively little research has ever been done on their quality of care and welfare needs.

In order to rectify this, Burgess Pet Care is launching a new project to survey the nation’s guinea pig owners, to find out how much people know about their piggy pals. They will be asked about their knowledge of the five welfare needs:

Diet

Company

Health

Environment

Behaviour

The census will also gather more information on the pets’ behaviour, including their favourite foods and play areas, as well as whimsical things like their nicknames.

As a bonus, everybody who enters the competition will get a £2 discount on Burgess guinea pig food, and be in with a chance of winning a guinea pig hamper and runaround connection kit.
