I was in Northern Ireland last week speaking at NIVA and AVSPNI’s autumn meeting. It was entitled, ” Veterinary Development from Cradle to Grave”. I was invited by Pat Hart, NIVA’s president and a fellow dermatologist as well as a member of our platinum membership.

It was a great day with talks from Alex Shirlow, a veterinary student from Dublin; Nicky Paull, a PDP dean and Des Rice, a vet and life coach who was talking about stress. I was asked to talk about CPD and the CertAVP. Nobody fell asleep. Even John Blackwell, president elect of BVA, stayed awake. We’d met at Liverpool airport on the red-eye to Belfast. We were both up at 3.50am to get to the airport on time.

Of course, you can now apply for advanced practitioner status through the Royal College. We are running a webinar on 30th September at 8.30pm. It is entitled ” Advanced Veterinary Practitioner Status- the new middle tier of veterinary accreditation. I wish this webinar had come before the Northern Irish congress!

Kit Sturgess, Christine Warman and Duncan Ash will be explaining the new process during the webinar. This webinar will be ideal for those who may wish to apply for AVP status but also for all vets who want to know what this entails.
