2-4 PM (ET) 19th January 2018

Do you feel that you are in the profession of your dreams but the job is just not measuring up? You’re losing your mojo and you’re not sure what you want to do?

Doing what you love is so important because then you are much more likely to be passionate about it and if you are passionate about it then you will love it. It’s a virtuous circle.

Purpose comes from having a clarity of what you want to do with your life and you set yourself goals to get to where you want to go. If the above sounds familiar you are not alone, but support and advice is available, that’s why we are bringing you the 3rd Mind Matters Symposium in partnership with the RCVS entitled “Finding your purpose and passion”

The Mind Matters Initiative was launched in 2015 in response to the need to support and better equip those in the veterinary sector who were facing stress related issues, helping to improve the mental health and wellbeing of veterinary surgeons, veterinary nurses, practice managers and students. The symposium will feature 3 fantastic speakers who will be giving you the knowledge, skills and insight to start to rediscover your passion and purpose to drive positive change in your practice.

Jenny Guyat – Jenny, a former general practice and ECC vet, is a certified HBDI psychometric profiling practitioner and founder of Vet Harmony, a personal growth coach service for the veterinary profession helping guide people through career crossroads and establishing a healthy life balance. (www.vetharmony.co.uk)

Dr. Jen Brandt - Jen is the AVMA Director of Member Wellness and Diversity Initiatives and is responsible for identifying, developing, implementing and coordinating activities and programs that enhance the well-being of its members and advancing the association’s commitment to diversity and inclusion in all aspects of the profession.

Rachel Duncan - As co-director of 387 Veterinary Centre, Rachel has been the driving force behind the practice’s five year Investors in People journey which, in December 2016, led to the practice becoming the first in the UK to receive platinum accreditation in recognition of excellence in people management for sustained success. Her passion for shared team values, compassionate support and proactive personal development led to the practice becoming winners of the SPVS/ Mind Matters inaugural Wellbeing Award in January 2017. 387 Vets subsequently went on to win Petplan Practice of the Year 2017.

At the Webinar Vet we have seen the positive impact Mindfulness and Wellbeing has had on those practices who have taken part in our Mindfulness Series, so we are glad to be able to offer everybody this chance to get some insight into effective ways of maintaining a positive mentality and rediscovering you’re mojo for a profession we are all privileged to work in.

Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction

Practical skills of noticing, mindful movement and meditation that can help with physical and psychological health problems as well as ongoing life challenges. It is taught in an entirely secular way and has no religious context or content at all. It is designed to systematically develop mindfulness skills.

Participants will learn to develop mindfulness through ‘formal’ mindfulness meditation practices, including a body scan meditation, various sitting meditations, gentle movement and body awareness exercises. There are also ‘informal’ practices - bringing mindful attention to ordinary, everyday experiences like brushing your teeth or eating a mouthful of food.

Sleep Series 2017

This 6 week course is aimed at helping people working in the veterinary profession to understand more about sleep, to worry less about sleep and to feel less tired and bothered about the effect that sleep problems have on their lives. By the end of the course most people will be experiencing improved functioning and will be more relaxed and content. The course is based on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy principles. ACT has a very good evidence base for helping people with sleep pre-occupation disorders and insomnia.

Testimonials

"Thank you, this is my first experience of such an event. I have just had a particularly draining week at work and thought I would be too tired to really benefit this weekend but to be able to partake in the relaxed home environment has been great. All very motivating and uplifting - I will definitely be a starter for next year. And our New Zealand summer has put on a wet weekend so excellent indoor activity - timing could not have been better."

“For me Webinars are the best and easiest way for continuing education nowadays. Especially The Webinar vet with the broad field of speakers is ideal for an general practitioner to keep up to date in the different areas of veterinary medicine. The specialists share their experiences evidence based but in a very practical way. So you get good tips and hints to use in your daily routine. I joined the Webinar vet a few year ago and they still find new interesting topics. Many thanks to the team and keep it up!”
